Daniel Fata Visits GFSIS
Daniel P. Fata, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for European and NATO Policy, was a guest of the GFSIS on 18 April 2008. Mr Fata spoke to a group of Georgian governmental, civil society and media representatives on the results of the NATO Summit which took place in Bucharest, Romania earlier this month.

Colleen Graffy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, visits GFSIS
On April 9, 2008 GFSIS hosted a discussion with Colleen Graffy, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. Ms. Graffy spoke about the intimate relation between public diplomacy and foreign policymaking. Public diplomacy is the “art of communicating a country’s values and policies,” and is neither propaganda nor public relations.

President Mikheil Saakashvili Visits GFSIS
The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, visited the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (GFSIS) on 28 March 2008. President Saakashvili, speaking within an international workshop entitled “The Role of Non-Governmental Organisations in the Processes of Reintegration in Georgia” and organised by the Office of the Georgian State Minister for Reintegration, unveiled a series of new proposals designed to resolve the Abkhazian conflict.

Jeffrey Gedmin, the President of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Visits GFSIS
On 31 March, 2008 GFSIS hosted a presentation by Jeffrey Gedmin, the President of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL). David Kakabadze, the Director of RFE/RL’s Georgia Service, joined Mr. Gedmin in the discussion. Mr. Gedmin spoke about the importance of a free press to the development of a stable democracy, and about the role of the press in Georgia.

Security From Europe Through Turkey To The South Caucasus
The GFSIS, the International Association of Young Diplomats, Businessmen, Scientists and Lawyers and the Strategic Research Centre of the Yeditepe University in collaboration with NATO, TIKA and Tantim Fonu organised an international conference entitled "Security Through Europe From Turkey to the South Caucasus" which was held on 27 - 28 March at the premises of the Foundation.

GFSIS and Central Asia Caucasus Institute – Silk Road Studies Programme Host Working Session
The GFSIS, in collaboration with the Central Asia Caucasus Institute - Silk Road Studies Programme (Stockholm), hosted a roundtable working session on 5 March at the Foundation’s premises to address the issue of strengthening national integration in Georgia.

GFSIS Honours Sixth Group of Graduates
A graduation ceremony was held at the Foundation on 29 February to formally confer certificates upon the sixth group of graduates of the Training Course in International Relations and National Security. Funded by the United States Department of State, the programme offers seminars on topics including small states, globalisation, economics, research methods and Euro-Atlantic structures, amongst others, and has an impressive group of alumni of over a hundred fellows since it was started in 2002. Currently, the programme is running in its seventh year.
