Merab  Kakulia
Dr Merab Kakulia

Dr. Merab Kakulia is a senior fellow at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (GFSIS). His professional expertise lies in the fields of Monetary Economics, Banking & Finance and Geoeconomics. Prior to joining GFSIS, he was a vice-governor of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).
Since 1987 Dr. Kakulia is a professor of Tbilisi State University. From 1992 to 2005 he worked for the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) as a head of Foreign Exchange Department, Vice-governor and Member of the Council. Simultaneously (from 2000 -2005) Dr. Kakulia was a governor of Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) for Georgia and SWIFT National Chairperson (from 1997). He is an author of 40 publications devoted to the problems of Monetary and foreign Exchange policy, Banking & Finance, International Economics. Dr. Kakulia holds a Candidate of Sciences degree from Moscow Lomonosov State University and Doctor of Science degree from Georgian Research Institute of Economic and Social Development.
