Visiting researcher at GFSIS Marietta König has studied Political Science, Intercultural Business Communication, Slavistics and Caucasiology at the Friedrich- Schiller-University Jena (FSU)/Germany, at the State University in Minsk/ Belorus, at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris/ France and at the Tbilisi State University/ Georgia. In 2004 she graduated from the FSU with a Masters' thesis about the OSCE Long Term Mission to Georgia's work in South Ossetia. During her studies Marietta König worked for several Georgian NGOs, such as the Caucasian House and the International Center on Conflict and Negotiation (ICCN). She is regularly observing elections for ODIHR/OSCE, e.g. in January 2004 in Georgia. From 2003-2004 she worked for the Centre of OSCE Research (CORE) at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg, on a freelance basis and since October 2004 she is part of CORE and writes her PhD thesis. At GFSIS she will research on the effectiveness of UNOMIG Mediation in the Abkhazian-Georgian conflict.
