On May 29, 2009 a roundtable discussion with the representatives of civil society of Kvemo Kartli and U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, HE John Tefft, was held at GFSIS's regional Public Policy office in Marneuli. The regional Public Policy Units (PPUs) in Marneuli, Kvemo Kartli and Akhalkalaki, Samtskhe-Javakheti, were established in the framework of the program, "Enhancing Capacity of Ethnic Civil Society Groups to Actively Participate in Pubic Policy Debate" supported by the Government of Finland since February 2009.

The GFSIS, in partnership with the Atlantic Council of the United States and the Harriman Institute at Columbia University, hosted a Frozen Conflicts Forum on Abkhazia on 19 June, 2008. The day-long event, held at the Foundation's premises, featured four panels of presentations: Humanitarian Issues and IDP Returns, Security and Peacekeeping, CBMs and Recent Proposals and Russia's Role in the Abkhaz Conflict.

Daniel P. Fata, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for European and NATO Policy, was a guest of the GFSIS on 18 April 2008. Mr Fata spoke to a group of Georgian governmental, civil society and media representatives on the results of the NATO Summit which took place in Bucharest, Romania earlier this month.

On 31 March, 2008 GFSIS hosted a presentation by Jeffrey Gedmin, the President of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL). David Kakabadze, the Director of RFE/RL's Georgia Service, joined Mr. Gedmin in the discussion. Mr. Gedmin spoke about the importance of a free press to the development of a stable democracy, and about the role of the press in Georgia.
