ICT Training to Facilitate Information Society and Diminish Digital Gap in Georgia

Three days training of instructors (12 instructors in the first group and 11 instructors in the second group) for further ICT training and consulting in Georgia and one seminar with broader participation (29 participants) were arranged. The activity was carried out at GFSIS in the framework of Joint Project - GFSIS - LIKTA (Latvia) - UNDP- Georgia.

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, visited the GFSIS on 28 March 2008. President Saakashvili, speaking within an international workshop entitled "The Role of Non-Governmental Organisations in the Processes of Reintegration in Georgia" and organised by the Office of the Georgian State Minister for Reintegration, unveiled a series of new proposals designed to resolve the Abkhazian conflict.

GFSIS hosted a panel discussion on the US presidential primary elections. David J. Smith, Director of the Georgian Security Analysis Center, spoke about the primary process; Stephen Guice, Press Attache at the US Embassy, discussed the history of party nominations in the US; and Jonathan Kulick, Director of Studies at GFSIS, reviewed the current candidates and their campaign strategies.

A roundtable discussion, entitled "Georgian-Iranian Relations: Economic, Political and Cultural Issues," was held at the GFSIS on 19-21 June, 2007. "I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Foundation for organizing this event," said Dr. Manuchehr Moradi, Director of the Centre of Eurasian Studies at the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS). "It is a very big step towards developing co-operation between Iran and Georgia."

On May 10, 2007, GFSIS held an outreach seminar in Batumi under the aegis of its project "Raising Awareness about European Union in Georgia". The host of the event was Batumi State University. The study seminar was devoted to Europe's Day, celebrated on May 9th. GFSIS extends its gratitude to the State Minister's office for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration for its help in organizing the outreach seminar, as well as the rector of the Batumi State University, Mr. Vladimer Balavadze, for his cooperation.
