ICT Training to Facilitate Information Society and Diminish Digital Gap in Georgia

Three days training of instructors (12 instructors in the first group and 11 instructors in the second group) for further ICT training and consulting in Georgia and one seminar with broader participation (29 participants) were arranged. The activity was carried out at GFSIS in the framework of Joint Project - GFSIS - LIKTA (Latvia) - UNDP- Georgia.

GFSIS and Brookings in Joint Collaboration

The GFSIS and the Brookings Institution organised and hosted an event entitled "Frontiers of Europe Workshop: Challenges of Stabilisation and Reform in the Caucasus" which took place on 6 - 7 April at the premises of the Foundation.

President Mikheil Saakashvili Visits GFSIS

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, visited the GFSIS on 28 March 2008. President Saakashvili, speaking within an international workshop entitled "The Role of Non-Governmental Organisations in the Processes of Reintegration in Georgia" and organised by the Office of the Georgian State Minister for Reintegration, unveiled a series of new proposals designed to resolve the Abkhazian conflict.

Public Administration Transformation In The South Caucasus

The Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies hosted a regional conference on 27 - 28 March at the Courtyard by Marriot hotel in Tbilisi within the framework of its Public Policy Knowledge Network (PPKN).

GFSIS and Central Asia Caucasus Institute – Silk Road Studies Programme Host Working Session

The GFSIS, in collaboration with the Central Asia Caucasus Institute - Silk Road Studies Programme (Stockholm), hosted a roundtable working session on 5 March at the Foundation's premises to address the issue of strengthening national integration in Georgia.

Discussion at GFSIS

GFSIS hosted a panel discussion on the US presidential primary elections. David J. Smith, Director of the Georgian Security Analysis Center, spoke about the primary process; Stephen Guice, Press Attache at the US Embassy, discussed the history of party nominations in the US; and Jonathan Kulick, Director of Studies at GFSIS, reviewed the current candidates and their campaign strategies.

Capacity Building in Strategic Decision-Making: Lessons from the Asia-Pacific Development Experience

The GFSIS, together with the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (Tokyo), is currently hosting the fifth session in the ongoing training programme, entitled “Capacity Building in Strategic Decision-Making: Lessons from the Asia-Pacific Development Experience,” which will take place from 22 October to 2 November. 

GFSIS Hosts Conference

The GFSIS, with the support of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (Tokyo), the Government of Finland, the US Department of State and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, organised and implemented an international conference, entitled "The Caucasus: Co-operation for Stability," which was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Tbilisi Hotel on 19-21 October, 2007.

GFSIS Hosts a Daylong Conference

"Georgia in the Trans-Atlantic Security Debate," with support of the Center for International Relations (Warsaw) and the German Marshall Fund of the United States took place at GFSIS. Speakers and participants included a large delegation from Poland and representatives of Georgian NGOs, the government, and opposition parties.

Georgian-Iranian Relations Discussed at the GFSIS

A roundtable discussion, entitled "Georgian-Iranian Relations: Economic, Political and Cultural Issues," was held at the GFSIS on 19-21 June, 2007. "I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Foundation for organizing this event," said Dr. Manuchehr Moradi, Director of the Centre of Eurasian Studies at the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS). "It is a very big step towards developing co-operation between Iran and Georgia."

Outreach Seminar to Batumi

On May 10, 2007, GFSIS held an outreach seminar in Batumi under the aegis of its project "Raising Awareness about European Union in Georgia". The host of the event was Batumi State University. The study seminar was devoted to Europe's Day, celebrated on May 9th. GFSIS extends its gratitude to the State Minister's office for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration for its help in organizing the outreach seminar, as well as the rector of the Batumi State University, Mr. Vladimer Balavadze, for his cooperation.
