General Information
As one of the premier institutions for national security
training and analysis in the South Caucasus,
GFSIS offers a unique internship experience for students interested in
international security, post-Soviet studies, and economic development. Situated
in the capital of Georgia,
GFSIS gives interns the opportunity to learn about the region first-hand from
analysts and government officials around the region.
Interns will not be asked to do administrative tasks; they
will be engaged in substantive work, doing news gathering, news analysis, and
conference summaries for GFSIS publications and the GFSIS website. Interns will
also help write grants for the foundation and will have the opportunity to
attend meetings and conferences with leading scholars, government officials,
and journalists throughout Georgia
and the South Caucasus. We are seeking motivated students
who will participate in our research projects but who will also conduct their
own research and writing.

Compensation
Unfortunately, GFSIS cannot
provide compensation or course credit. However, for those accepted into the
program, GFSIS will gladly write a letter of recommendation and certification of
the internship to a granting institution to support the internship. In the
past, interns have received funding from their colleges or from philanthropic
institutions in the United
States.
Visa and Housing
GFSIS will support a visa
application for the duration of all internships. American students may contact
the American Councils for International Education to arrange their housing,
while others should be able to find families to stay with or apartments through
alternative avenues.
When to Apply
Applications are
accepted on a rolling basis, however we ask that you
please apply at least three months before you expect to begin your internship.
